The CPOA meets monthly, on the first Tuesday at 5:30 pm at the Pitt Center. Members are welcome to attend. There is a comment period if you wish to make a comment or ask a question.
Your CPOA at Work
- Everyone was thrilled the Chicahauk Bridge opened early by Memorial Day weekend and along with that a new Chicahauk sign was ordered and has been installed at the bridge.
A new sign was installed for Poteskeet Park as the old sign had rotted out. The new signs with our latest logo are neater, cleaner, brighter, and enhance the appearance of our community. We are working on updating the Chicahauk and Rt 12 as well as the Sea Oats entrance signs.
Several dead trees, deemed to be a safety issue, were also removed from the park. A volunteer, Scott Rauch, repaired one of the picnic tables in Poteskeet Park. Thank you, Scott!!
- Hardscape was put around the basketball court and the Pavillion at Trinitie Park to prevent further erosion problems. We also had the parking lot gravel re-graded and cleaned the bleachers at both ends of the basketball court.
The Board is currently working on the budget for the 2026-2027 year. A priority is to have the tennis courts refurbished and to install pickle ball lines on one court. A kayak rack for Poteskeet Park is under consideration and hopefully can be an in-house build.
Thanks to the members who alerted us to the problems with some of the boards on the Turtle Pond Bridge. Those were replaced by Board member Joe McGraw but additional decking maintenance is needed, and we are working on getting estimates for that work.
The Beach Access Paths to Rt. 12 and other trails are an important maintenance concern, and the Board are working on a solution that addresses use, safety, maintenance and environmental concerns that are within the financial resources of our association.
- The Paths and Trails Committee is still in need of a few more volunteers to help monitor these resources. These include the Beach Access Paths, bike paths, and unimproved paths such as the Glenn Wyder and Bill Stanton Trails. If you (and your pets!) use any of these paths and trails, we could use your help. Please email the office (chicahauk@cpoaobx.org) by November 21st if you are interested.
- Another thanks to our volunteers. As you know, we need all the help we can get (!) to maintain our great community. If you have ideas, suggestions, or WOULD BE WILLING to volunteer, please get in touch with the office and let them know how you would like to help.
- Angel Gift Program 2025 - Unfortunately, CPOA is unable to participate in the Angel Gift Program in 2025 which is sponsored by the Outer Banks Women’s Club. We want to thank the CPOA community that has donated to this program over the last few years and helped with the CPOA effort. We know that some of you participated in this program through your churches, other community organizations, or businesses. If you participated in this program through CPOA, please check out this information which provides a way for you to continue helping children in the OBX experience a joyful holiday season through this program!
- Dunes Maintenance - For those of you who volunteer, or wish to volunteer, to assist Len with maintenance of the dunes, the next time to meet and work is Sunday November 16th. Len sent an email out and that is posted on Facebook. If you want to participate or just get Len’s informational emails, you can ask him to add you to the list at fenceplantrepeat@gmail.com.
- Save the Date – Santa Ride 2025! - Not long now to go before Santa makes his pre-Christmas stop in Southern Shores. More details to follow but put this don’t-miss event on your calendar today!
- What: Southern Shores Santa Ride Event
- When: Saturday, December 20 from 1-4 pm.
- Rain/snow date: Sunday, December 21 from 1-4 pm.
- Trinitie Pavilion – Updated Use Guidelines - The Trinitie Pavilion Use Guidelines have been updated to allow verified members of the CPOA to reserve the Pavilion for use. Please review the updated Guidelines here for details on the reservation process as well as the responsibilities members have for use and clean-up after use of the Pavilion. Please contact the office by phone or email if you have questions or would like to reserve the Pavilion for an activity.
